when is a slave not a slave

Well, I've gone to B&O espresso often enough at the same time of day that the cashier at that time of night knows what I'm going to order already. This is sort of comforting, and simultaneously annoying. I like having my persistent existance acknowledged. I don't like being predictable. Here's me being predictable, though. Hey michelle! I hope your fucking thesis proposal defense goes well! Michelle is who? Michelle is the only ex-girlfriend I still talk to reasonably regularly. She was my "first", uh. Recently she started keeping a journal and posting it online. She likes it when people pay attention to her, so I'd tell people to go look at it, but it's not going to be updated for a while because she's too busy being a genius and answering tough questions about yeast or glow-in-the-dark mice or something. It is good that she exists, because there are very few people to whom I can say things that echo my thought processes without fatally offending or alienating them. At least, when it comes to women. I guess I'm just an oppressive white abusive male patriarch chauvanist potential-rapist freudian oedipal warmonging republican psychopath at heart.

Bills are really killing my finances this month. $250 for electricity? $500 for phone calls? What the hell am I doing? I am now sitting in the dark, in the cold, with all the monitors off, using my laptop to do stuff. I heard Ed had some kind of insane $600 electric bill, though. Yeah. At least I don't live in California. Yeek. I thought the big deal with fossil fuels is that they're pretty cheap, and that's why we use them for such a large percentage of our electricity. At this price, we should be making hydro and nuke plants. Norway gets something like 99% of its electricity from hydro. Go Norway! Oh wait, I'm making off-the-cuff remarks that vastly oversimplify a complicated problem that staffs (staves?) of experts spend large amounts of time and money analyzing. I gotta remember, I'm not a college student!

Today I learned more about mixing. I learned a cute trick on Behringer Eurorack mixers! If you put in the 75Hz cut switch and turn up the low EQ, you get a 80 cycle-ish peak instead of shelving, which made for pretty punchy bass drums at today's practice (boominess has been a problem, since a certain bass player tends to use obnoxiously big "booty" kick drums in his sequences, sometimes 4 at once.)

Right now I'm listening to a Babyland album. Current song is called "Fucked Equipment". This is a great name for a song. I can relate! Me, not my equipment.

P.S. I don't really need to be sent that link again. I am quite aware of all my base, and have some idea of who they are belong to.

P.P.S. I'm trying out this updatefu thing that I saw in le's writing. I'm not sure how it works or what the rules are or if it's lame to be square or what. It might turn out you have to personally know the guy or be cool or something to do it.
