I'm back at work. Same place! They haven't made quite as much headway
towards getting me through the new employee process as they would've liked, but
I'm sitting here at a desk, set up how I like, with net access. How is this
possible?
Well, it's my same desk from half a year ago. All the office supplies I
stocked the file drawer with are there. The computer is in the same place, and
so are the whiteboard markers.
In fact, they haven't erased my whiteboard since I left. The diagrams of my
last project are on it, as well as the little cartoon guy I drew that says
"bye!" (I just changed him to be waving "Hi!" instead.)
My computer hasn't even been rebooted or shut down. The screensaver that
kicked in 15 minutes after I left, last august, was still running when I sat
down. My desktop icons and doodad files are in the same place. My browser was
still open, with the various test pages and references still open. I am just
now running windows update to get the last 6 months of patches on there.
There were only two changes: the hub was removed from the network cable
(disconnecting my way-out-of-date security-risk computer from the world), and
someone moved my chair (natch).
You see why I like this place so much? They kept a shrine to me!
And man, I've been slacking. I have to make an entry about the hugs
counter.
