18: Like Beef

    Happy birthday party to me

Tonight I had my birthday dinner, though my actual birthday was on the second. I brought Ed, Kris, and Helen to Daniel's for some birthday steak. I'm not normally big into steak - it's heavy, often tough, and the cow industry practices are questionable. Special occasions, though, anything goes.

In the past I've wound up picking up some pretty serious tabs when I went out to birthday dinners. Last year, or maybe it was the year before. I finally got clued in that usually people take YOU out for your birthday, and I sat there waiting for folks to pay for their own meals. Well, I got enough complaints about that to change the invitation list somewhat. Kris and Ed have my best interests in mind, though. They are, by most definitions, my homeboys. So they come out to shmancy dinner.

We all had STEAK. And potatos. Actually Helen got broccoli instead, but she's the only one that wound up with anything green at all.

The steak was good - I prefer Daniel's to any other shmancy steakhouse (this is the category places such as the metro and marcos are listed under in the yellow pages. "steakhouse, shmancy") even though it may not have the variety of the metro, or the ... whatever it is marcos has. The steak is good.

For my present I got a voice lesson. And a little stamp of a telephone/cat. I was thinking a little about the "old boy" club atmosphere of steakhouses, and how they're like advanced hooterses in a way, but I'm tired and I sleep, way too full of beef.
