--- Much as I hate to say it, I did some really stupid stuff today. The thing I'm going to tell you about is the one that has to do with the Bus, my old nemesis. Brian and Le'a and I went out to Northgate Mall. We then tried to return to the University district via Bus. We checked the bus schedules at the Northgate mall transit station, and the buses heading to our destination were to leave the station IMMEDIATELY, and the next ones were in half an hour. Brian went to bay 5 and waited for the bus in half an hour. I had taken that bus before and I knew it went to the right place. However, bus number 75, labeled "U Dist (blah blah)" rumbled into bay 1. Le'a and I took off running after it, motioning for Brian to follow. Brian shook his head no, and waved us back. He was sitting there on the butt rest, wearing his sunglasses and trenchcoat. I guess he didn't want to run after us or explain why we should stay. So, I ran and caught the 75 bus with Le'a, leaving Brian behind. It took us 45 minutes to get to the University District, and when we got there, Brian had long since arrived.

OKay, that wasn't very interesting. I'd just like to say that sometimes people do this irritating thing where, instead of explaining something to you (Something SIMPLE, like the fact that THAT bus takes twice as long as THIS bus to get there), they just tell you "trust me," as if their reputation for being infallible should be assurance enough that everything is right. OR, they pretend they didn't hear you ask the question. I hate it when people do that. The canonical countermeasure is to look expectantly at them and not respond to anything they say until they respond to your question. This can turn into a fun game where they try and pretend that they didn't hear you while you try to make them slip up and confirm that they did.

Today was just a day for tactical linguistics. Brian interrupted me in the middle of a paragraph to say something related. He has a very loud voice. I waited about 7 seconds and then burst in with a "YEAH, this game we used to play with the tree in elementary school..." in the most obviously intentional obnoxious voice I could manage. I got to finish my story! We were remeniscing about the games we played as kids in elementary school. Kris and I and a couple others used to balance on these raised roots around a tree and kick each other until we fell off. A dazzling point that was necessary to get across.

--- I watched "Shallow Grave" today. Since it was recommended by a girl (and another girl), I thought it was going to be a girl movie. I was introduced to this idea by ex #3, Michelle. A girl movie is a movie like "Jean de Florette" or "The Joy Luck Club" which he-men do not go out to see with groups of similarly manly guys. But then I got email from Ethan saying that it was fat packed with big evil, so I was reassured. Yup! Wow, it was great! One of those movies where there aren't any good guys. So, off to find more watchable movies. (Some people sent in suggestions. I LOVE people who know what movies are good to see.)

Being driven home by Julie after today's activities, we were surprised by 8 or 9 police cruisers distributed around her neigborhood. Stopped on street corners, revolving lights flashing. I have no idea what was going on, but we could NOT avoid the cop cars. We'd turn into side streets, and still end up driving straight into an intersection with two strobing police cars stopped in the center. There were also cruisers moving into positions as we watched. What could they have been doing? We weren't stopped. Maybe they were setting off a route through Seattle, perhaps for a shipment of nuclear weaponry. In any case, it was unnerving and I'll be checking today's paper to see if any clues show up.
