There are currently 3 different octopi on display at the Seattle Aquarium. Like every other octopus I've seen in an aquarium, all of them elect to spend their time crammed into a corner of the tank wadded into a red spotted ball. I get the feeling octopi really resent being in a glass box, or that it upsets them or drives them insane somehow. Le'a tells me that a friend of hers had an octopus in a tank and it moped around for a few days and then abruptly
crammed itself into a corner and sat there furiously changing colors, refusing to move again. I wonder why they like the corner. Maybe they are trying to make themselves inconspicuous and get out of the way of everything, like a shy child at a school dance.

After the initial expenditure for operation Car: Buy has faded from my financial radar, I plan on strengthening my audio production capabilities. One thing I want to get is a DAT walkman and condensor mic for mobile 44kHz sampling. I wonder if people are as sensitive to the situation of being audio-recorded as they are to being visually recorded.
Some people seem to have an extreme aversion to having photos taken of them, or video shot of them. My enterprising pal Ed made several
experimental videos of people in public which documents this exact phenomenon. I myself was flipped off and screamed at continuously by an otherwise unassuming japanese girl in my physics class while photographing her at the teacher's request (and with the teacher's camera). "Don't fucking take pictures!!!!" etc. Anyway, I doubt that people are as afraid of being sonically recorded, since it is harder to identify someone from a recording. Many times, when people hear a recording of their voice for the first time,
they can't believe it is an accurate reproduction. Photographs are a little harder to dissociate onesself from. You just see how weird looking you really are. My plan is to wander the city recording key everyday transactions at mic-point. Interview style. "Hello, sir. Can you explain the french fries to me?"
